Lexus IS vs BMW 3 Series: Which Sedan Reigns Supreme?

If you are shopping for a sleek and stylish car, there are many terrific luxury sedans to choose from. Both BMW and Lexus produce premier models, but which is right for you? It’s time for a comparison, and this guide looks at the Lexus IS vs BMW 3 Series. Here you’ll discover how these sedans match up, courtesy of BMW of Northwest Arkansas.
Fuel Economy
If you do a lot of driving, you know that fuel costs can add up quickly. If you don’t want your next car to be a gas guzzler, the 2026 BMW 3 Series is a great choice, as it gets an EPA-estimated 28 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway, which are excellent numbers for the class. The best the Lexus IS can do is 21/31 MPG city/highway.
Space and Comfort
The 2026 BMW 3 Series certainly doesn’t look like a large vehicle, which is why its cabin provides an unexpected surprise. It is extremely spacious, with plenty of room for five people, and both rows can easily accommodate adults. In addition, this new BMW sedan has a huge trunk that contains 16.9 cubic feet of space.
While the Lexus IS technically also has room for five passengers, the rear row is cramped, so fitting three adults back there is a bit of a tight squeeze. The trunk is downright tiny, as it only offers 10.8 cubic feet to work with.
Technology Features
Technology is another high point for the 2026 BMW 3 Series. Its dashboard is completely digital and consists of a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen for the iDrive 8.5 infotainment system. Other built-in features include wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®, a Wi-Fi® hotspot, satellite radio, and wireless device charging.
The Lexus IS does have some of the same features, but its infotainment system touchscreen is just 12.3 inches.
