BMW 6-Series Featured in Mission Impossible 4

BMW & Saab Joining Forces

There's big news happening in the automotive industry. Today, two auto giants are joining forces. BMW & Saab. Two of the best known foreign car companies are coming together as one.

Their plan is to share research, development and production of completed engine models. This agreement to share engine technology came after some very secretive meetings, which were only broken today by The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. Leave it to two new giants to break the story behind two car legends.

BMW i100 Coupe Hybrid

Since 2008, BMW has worked on perfecting its ActiveHybrid technology - combining luxury performance and the green car culture. A new report out of Germany is suggesting a production version of the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept is coming out soon.

It could be dubbed the BMW i100 Coupe ActiveHybrid, that is if it's finally launched sometime in 2013.

It is an obvious attempt to break away from the series-based nomenclature BMW has been known to use and draw some inspiration from the M1 moniker, but i100 seems more likely to end up being the first of a larger "1-Series."

BMW to Produce Carbon Fiber for Megacity Urban EV

BMW is on its way to creating one of the most futuristic City Cars for buyers of the popular German make. Carbon fiber parts, including hoods and fenders, will be constructed at the company's new U.S.-based Washington State facility for their upcoming Megacity Urban Concept.

From Japan to the U.S. To Germany - BMW's Moses Lake, WA plant will import raw materials from Japan, spin them into fibers one-tenth the width of a human hair, and send them to a German factory. There, the materials will be pressed into carbon fiber fabric.

BMW M5 E60 Comes to an End

After a run lasting since 2005 BMW has put their M5 E60 sedan to rest. The M5 E60 was a special edition of the M5, which produced only 20,548 units in those 5 years. A five-door hatchback version produced only 1,025 units since 2007.

The E60 M5 featured a 5.0-liter V10 gasoline engine that delivers 509 horsepower, and up to 380 ft-lb of torque. Mated to either a seven-speed SMG or six-speed manual transmission, the car was capable of a 0 - 60 MPH time of 4.2 seconds.

BMW Future Could Be Carbon Fiber Based

BMW has always been at the top of automotive engineering and design. The German auto makers like to remain ahead of the class when it comes to the look of their concepts, production cars and materials.

With that, rumors are beginning to circulate that future BMW vehicles may be made from carbon fiber.

BMW recently showcased this material with their lightweight X5 prototype. Its body weight is almost half of a first-generation X5's.
